First of all, I think the colors work perfectly in this piece. The leaves have a very hand drawn look to them and keeps the texture prominent. The only thing I want to change is the placement of the human figure. The cut off is too strong and awkward. If you decide to leave it there maybe try blending your body down into the rest of the tree trunk. Or move it down to the bottom, or stretch it! Other than that it is a mysterious type of personal portrait. I feel like the tree is some sort of symbol for something going on in your life, since you've placed yourself in the middle of it. These were two images that worked well for this project and I think you succeeded in creating an emotion in the viewer that makes us want to know why you made this.
I like the interplay of the head with the tree, but I agree with Andrea that the cutoff at the bottom is too harsh. Some feathering or smudging might make the change more gradual and more pleasing. I love what you did with the branches on the tree, they remind me of fractals. :)
I also agree with Andrea the figure and the tree need to be integrated the linear cut off is too strong and detracting from your image. I do really like your composition and color scheme it is very emotionally driven.
the blending between the figure and tree is excellent, the shadows having the detail of the tree really brings together these two individual images. the color palatte is interesting and a little off beat, which i like. the perspective of the tree vs. the perspective of the portrait interest me. i'm having a hard time making up my mind about it. on one hand i think it makes the tree into just a background for the portrait instead of being part of the piece. on the other hand, i think the combination adds a dimension of space in the middle of the image, sandwiched between the two. i do have to add another agreement to the statement about the cut off of the figure being too strong. a little blending and it's taken care of.
I do not know how I feel about this piece. I wish that The person overlaying the tree was a little more tailored to it. Like the shoulder detail, the forehead and the ear. The hair does not bother me as much because it seems that it fits their more compared to the other parts. the background colors are really soft and and work very well together. I get a warm vibe from this picture.
